Amazon Studios Donation Equals Specialty Salads

Amazon Studios Donation Equals Specialty Salads

Thanks to a generous donation from Amazon Studios and No Kid Hungry, Mountain View School District’s Summer Meal Program, which provides free 5-Day Meal Packs to children 18 years and younger now include specialty entrée salads from local restaurants.  The 5-day meal packs including 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches as well as milk, fresh fruits and vegetables are distributed every Monday through August 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Payne School, Madrid Middle School, Kranz Intermediate School and Cogswell School.

Amazon Studios provided $1 million for the catering team at the award-winning Jon & Vinny’s restaurant group to prepare meals for local charities feeding those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, including No Kid Hungry, Off Their Plate, the L.A. Mission and the Motion Picture & Television Fund. As part of the initiative, Jon & Vinny’s is teaming with other L.A. restaurants including the Culver City restaurant Akasha, whose kitchen staffs are working to prepare and deliver food to be distributed.

“This unprecedented crisis has impacted all of us in immeasurable ways, and it’s more important than ever that we all do our part to give back at every level — and particularly to our own community,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “At Amazon Studios and Prime Video, we’re truly honored to be able to show our support to the community that has always supported us, and to team up with Jon & Vinny’s to provide food to those who so desperately need it along with a lifeline to local businesses.”

According to Kathy Saile, California Director of No Kid Hungry, the coronavirus pandemic has put a huge financial burden on California families.  “With lost jobs and wages many families are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table.  We’re proud to team up with Amazon Studios and Jon & Vinny’s to help school nutrition teams ease the burden felt by families in the Los Angeles region by providing meals for kids while schools are closed,” said Saile.

MVSD is one of two school districts in L.A. County to receive the specialty salads for its program.

“It is such an honor to be receiving this support from such wonderful organizations supporting our communities,” said Susan Delgado, MVSD’s Nutrition Services Director.  “The specialty entrée salads are delicious and we are grateful for this opportunity to add them to our weekly meal packs.  In addition to providing for families in need during the pandemic, Amazon Studios’ generosity is also helping restaurants and small local businesses during these challenging times.”
