MVSD Students Celebrate Unity Day Taking a Stand Against Bullying and Promoting Kindness

Celebrating kindness and taking a stand against bullying, schools in the Mountain View School District joined Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC) to celebrate Unity Day on October 20.

Themed “Together against bullying. UNITED for kindness, acceptance and inclusion” Unity Day encourages everyone to come together in a powerful message that bullying should never be part of childhood and highlights the importance of physical and emotional health.

Students and staff at schools throughout the District proudly dressed in orange in support of Unity Day, and took part in a variety of activities promoting kindness.

At La Primaria School Leticia Olivas, the school’s counselor, coordinated a wristband decorating activity focused on kindness, acceptance and inclusion where students enjoyed writing positive sentiments and decorating wristbands with stickers.

“Unity Day is good because it helps stop bullying,” said Andrew, a 4th grader who was finishing up his wristband by writing Be a Friend

“It’s good to celebrate Unity Day because we can all come together to talk about what we think of bullying and how to prevent it,” said Destiny, a 5th grader.  “It’s also a good way to make friends by talking with each other.”

There was a sea of orange at Payne School as the Panthers united to say “No Bullying!”

“At Payne School we empower our students with age appropriate information and action plans to prevent bullying,” said Ruby Huesca, kindergarten teacher.  “Our students were excited to support Unity Day and promote kindness and inclusion.”

School Counselors throughout the District provided teachers with resources and activities to complete in the classroom to reinforce bullying prevention and promote a respectful and kind learning environment.  MVSD schools were proud to join together against bullying and unite for kindness, acceptance and inclusion on this special day.
