Kranz’s Blanket Drive Helps Those in Need
Reaching out to those in need was the goal of Kranz Intermediate School ASB students who organized a successful blanket drive, collecting blankets for DBNO (Down But Not Out) a non-profit organization that helps the homeless living in Skid Row. Under the direction of teachers Olga Gallegos and Francis Thompson, Kranz’s ASB led the charge during the week-long blanket drive. The kindness and generosity of Kranz’s students and staff was evident as 126 blankets were collected.
Byron Takeuchi, DBNO organizer, was thrilled with the amount of donated blankets he picked up from the school which filled up the entire bed of his truck.
“This is amazing!” said Takeuchi. “Kranz did an amazing job collecting blankets. Through DBNO we distribute food and other necessities to the homeless on the streets of Skid Row and they will definitely appreciate receiving these blankets.”
The ASB students all agreed it felt really good to help others in need.
“It feels nice to give to others,” said Marisol. “I’m sure the people who get the blankets will be very happy especially since it’s getting colder outside now.”
“I’m glad we were able to collect so many blankets,” said Carla. “It feels good to be generous.”
With the success of the blanket drive ASB is looking into continuing its outreach and hopes to plan other activities for the student body that provide support to others.
