Eagle Pride was strong at Monte Vista School, as the Junior High Leadership class hosted the first Spirit Week of the 2022-23 school year.
To kickoff of the week celebrating the school, ASB officers and Eddie the Eagle, the school’s mascot, paid a special visit to the Transitional Kindergarten class to welcome the newest Eagles to the school. The Junior High Leadership class made hand-made cards for each TK student to welcome them to the Monte Vista family.
“My students were very excited to have Eddie the Eagle and the ASB students visit our classroom,” said Connie Ruvalcaba, TK teacher. “I appreciate the leadership class creating the special welcome cards and the encouraging words on them really made my students feel welcome and part of the Monte Vista family.”
A mid-week activity the 7th and 8th graders participated in was a Junior High Quiz Competition, testing their knowledge of their school and the Mountain View School District. Questions included when the school opened, and what the original name of the school district was. Students were impressed to learn their school opened in 1956 and has been educating students for 66 years. They were equally surprised to find out that the Mountain View School District used to be called the Bog Dale School District, with the name change to Mountain View occurring in 1891.
The culminating activity for the week was a volleyball tournament with junior high student teams playing each other, staff teams battling it out and the final game pitting the students against the staff.
“It was a great week of fun activities for our students,” said Christina Correa, ASB/Leadership advisor and junior high teacher. “Our leadership students did a wonderful job igniting school spirit and encouraging all the students to show their Eagle pride.”
Monte Vista School is currently home to 827 students in TK through 8th grade, and is proud of its recognition by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best public middle schools.
