MVSD hosted its annual Menudo Breakfast
where over 1,200 of bowls of delicious home-made menudo were served. The event, held as an annual fund-raiser for
the schools and holiday kick-off celebration for the community, succeeded in
providing a festive and joyous holiday atmosphere. The
crowd enjoyed the wonderful dancing of Voorhis School’s Folklorico dancers and
a DJ played festive music throughout the morning. Raffle prizes were plentiful and included many
bicycles courtesy of donations from MVSD staff and schools.
The District’s community liaisons, food service staff members,
custodians, maintenance workers, administrators, teachers, support staff,
parents, and Kranz leadership students worked hard to ensure everyone had an
enjoyable morning.
“We appreciate the generosity of our sites
and their staffs for donating the bikes and gifts for the raffle,” said George
Schonborn, MVSD’s Director of Pupil Personnel Services who was serving as
emcee. “It is wonderful to see the excitement on the
faces of the raffle winners as they receive a bike or a gift during our event,”
he added.
Succeeding in bringing the community together for a morning of good food
and fun, the Menudo Breakfast has become a tradition for families in MVSD and
throughout El Monte.
“Bringing a smile to
a child and creating a sense of familia is what the Menudo Breakfast is all
about,” said Hugo Moreno, Payne School principal. “This is a priceless experience for all of us
who participate and we come together with this one purpose of community.”
In addition to those who enjoyed their menudo at the event, several
ticket holders brought their pots to fill up and took their soup to go and
enjoy at home.
In addition to the MVSD team, several community partners
such as ChapCare, Sam’s Club, Day One, Bike SGV and El Monte Promise Foundation
participated in the breakfast.
“Team Mountain View really did a fantastic job
of providing our students, families, and community with a warm and
inviting holiday event,” said Lillian Maldonado French, Superintendent. “It was amazing to see the joy on the faces
of those who attended, whether they were enjoying the entertainment or just
heard their name called for a prize, it was truly a magical morning for all.”
