District Adding Safety Equipment

District Adding Safety Equipment

The Mountain View School District is committed to securing additional safety equipment and supplies to maintain student and staff safety and the cleanliness of campuses in preparation for when it is safe for the 12 schools and preschool program to reopen.

The District’s warehouse staff has been busy accepting deliveries, organizing inventory and prepping the many safety items for distribution throughout the District.  Items include face masks, hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes, non-contact infrared thermometers, reusable water bottles, fans, air purifier units, electronic devices and more.

The additional safety and PPE items are being purchased through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which is special funding the District received due to the economic impacts of COVID-19. MVSD acted quickly to secure the items because purchases funded through the CARES Act must be purchased and delivered by the December 31 deadline, otherwise the funds must be returned.

At the school sites, the maintenance and custodial crews have been diligently working on facility improvements to provide COVID-19 compliant classrooms and campuses required to bring students back safely.  HVAC systems have been serviced and inspected across the District to ensure proper operation and circulation of outside air, and new filters have been installed.  Hands-free temperature check devices as well as hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed at all sites and mobile hand-washing stations and touch free water bottle filling stations will be installed at each site.  Maintenance staff have also been hard at work constructing and installing plexiglass “sneeze guards” for office areas and classrooms, and placing signage and markers for social distancing ensuring safe entry, exit and walking paths on campuses.   Custodians have been disinfecting occupied rooms and restrooms used by staff on campuses daily with high touch areas being disinfected multiple times during the day using the electrostatic sprayer and backpack sprayer.  Additionally, all custodians have been working on a variety of special projects throughout the District.

“Our Maintenance, Custodial, Warehouse and Purchasing departments have done a tremendous job with the additional workload to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” said Darin De Knikker, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services.  “They have worked tirelessly to put in place the necessary safety measures so we are ready and compliant to reopen our campuses and welcome our students back when it is safe to do so.”
