Mountain View School District was proud to collaborate with several community partners for the District’s 6th Annual Community Fair – “A Joyful You in 2022” providing families with information to help improve their health and well-being.

Held at the Mountain View Family Center, the event featured many service organizations and vendors who distributed important information on services available in the community.  Participants had a good time visiting the many booths and gathering important information on local health providers, wellness, nutrition, dental services, college readiness, educational support, youth sports, adult education, recreation, MVSD’s library and preschool programs and more.

The Los Angeles County Mobile Head Start Classroom was showcased, along with the many excellent preschool programs MVSD offers.  Preschool program staff members were on hand to answer questions and distribute free books and educational materials to families.  MVSD’s library technicians passed out free books and provide information on the District’s Summer Library Program and the El Monte Coalition of Latino Professional’s Little Libraries Program.  The District’s Nutrition Services Department shared a variety of nutrition and wellness resources and staff members, dressed as healthy fruits and foods, provided wonderful prizes such as blenders, hot plates, crockpots, electric skillets, hats and other kitchen and cooking items.

The crowd was also treated to a performance by Baker School’s fifth grade Conga Kids dance group and a Zumba session by Strong Beauty Fitness Studio.    A special art gallery, themed Healing through Art was set up in the Family Center’s gym and featured student artwork from each school.   Families were able to participate in an art activity with school counselors and engage in fun physical activity on the field with one of the District’s P.E. teachers.

“I’m so grateful to be a part of the Community Fair,” said Cynthia Guzman from Our Savior Center.  “This is a great event for our community and the families in the District.”

MVSD is dedicated to students’ health, well-being, and their ability to learn and the annual Community Fair supports the District’s wellness mission of creating an environment that supports and advocates for lifelong healthy eating habits, physical activity and mental wellness.

“We appreciate our many community partners for being here to provide our families with resources geared toward health and wellness,” said Priscilla Figueroa, Director of Family Engagement and Extended Learning.  “After the challenges of the past two years we are very happy to resume our annual Community Fair and we are excited with the turnout. We are grateful to everyone who participated and made our 6th Annual Community Fair such a success.”

MVSD would like to thank the follow Community Fair participants:  Our Savior Center, El Monte Promise Foundation, PEBSAF/PEI, El Monte Rosemead Adult School, SBCC – 1 Heart El Monte, AYSO, Active SGV, Day One, Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, Herald Christian Health Center, ChapCare Health, Pacific Clinics, MVSD’s Migrant Education Program and Parent Leadership Academy and Andrea’s Kitchen who provided delicious and nutritious acai bowls for purchase.

The evening was summed up well by a Payne School first grader as he exited with his family and a bag full of books and giveaways… “It was nice coming here to this place, I had so much fun!”
