La Primaria School Dedicates Portable Library
La Primaria Elementary School unveiled its new Community Portable Library at a special assembly held at the school. The “Take a Book – Leave a Book” library was the idea of former student and avid reader, DeAdalene Olmedo who wanted to provide fellow students and the community with access to books to read. The thoughtful and innovative student approached her principal, Mr. Lugo with her idea to have cabinet full of books that was accessible to everyone at all times.
“We were really impressed with DeAdalene’s idea and the fact that it promoted reading and provided books for not only students, but staff and community members too,” said Lugo.
“La Primaria is a community school and we appreciate our school/home/community partnership which supports our students greatly.”
The beautifully crafted portable library was brought to fruition by Mrs. Salgado, a retired La Primaria teacher and her husband Gonzalo Salgado. The special artwork and lettering on the cabinet was completed by La Primaria’s Health Clerk and esteemed artist, Dolores Haro.
“Books are so important and this portable library will enable students and others to get a book when our school library is closed or when they can’t get to a public library. Reading is a wonderful tool that not only improves academics but creates a strong imagination,” said Lugo.
The “Take a Book – Leave a Book” portable library, which is already stocked with lots of good books, will be placed in the front garden of the school welcoming students, staff, parents and community members to take a book and leave a book and enjoy the wonderful world of reading.
