New School Year Underway in MVSD

The Mountain View School District was excited to fully reopen its schools and launch the Mountain View Independent Study Virtual Academy as it welcomed back students for the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

“It is wonderful to have our students and staff back on our campuses, filling the classrooms, playgrounds and hallways with positive energy,” said Dr. Lillian Maldonado French, Superintendent.  “With COVID-19 safety measures in place, this first day of school looked different than any other and we appreciate the patience of our families and staff as we work together to ensure the safety of everyone on our campuses,” she added.

Students and parents were greeted at the gates by school staff members, verifying the required daily health screening before students eagerly entered the campus to pick up a grab and go breakfast, greet their teachers and reunite with friends.

“I’m so happy to be back at school,” said Elias, a first grader at Monte Vista School as he enjoyed a snack at recess.  “My teacher is nice and I really like playing on the playground.”

As students settled in to their classrooms, introductions were made and teachers reviewed classroom rules, expectations, schedules and safety protocols.  Several teachers also led classroom team building activities to help students get acquainted with their classmates.

With the reconfiguration of the district’s schools complete, this school year kicked off Parkview School’s first year as a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to 8th grade school and Twin Lakes School as a Kindergarten to 8th grade school.  MVSD’s other schools include Baker School TK-6th grade, La Primaria School K-5th grade, Maxson School K to 6th grade, Miramonte School TK-6th grade, Monte Vista School TK-8th grade, Payne School TK -6th grade and the Head Start/Children’s Center serving preschool students.  Additionally, the Mountain View Independent Study Virtual Academy was launched in compliance with AB 130, offering an alternative instructional option for families.

“After the very challenging past 18 months, we are very thankful to have our staff and students back on our campuses,” said Dr. French.  “The health and safety of everyone in the District remains our highest priority as we continue to take great measures to keep our students and employees safe.  We appreciate the continued partnership of our Mt. View team, parents and families as we move forward together and keep our schools safe and open by following all safety protocols and guidance.  Our students are loved, cared for, respected, valued and the reason we are here, and we look forward to a wonderful school year.”
