Free Summer Library Program Underway

MVSD’s free Summer Library Program is underway at Monte Vista, Parkview and Voorhis Schools where the school libraries are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through August 9, welcoming children and families and providing fun and educationally enriching activities each day. The “Journey to Summer Learning” Library Program provides children and families a chance to increase their reading and comprehension skills during the summer and enjoy the large selection of books and resources available at the school libraries. Along with reading and checking out books, the library technicians at each site offer arts and crafts, games, storytelling, nutrition education, creative snacks and movies. Students have a great time reading, playing board games and spending time with friends. This week, library visitors learned to “Rethink Their Drink” as Library Techs led a lesson on the amount of sugar in some of their favorite drinks, and the importance of drinking water. A free lunch is provided for children 18 years and under through MVSD’s Summer Meal Program and visitors to the library are able to write book reports and participate in weekly raffle prizes.
