Menudo Breakfast Returns In-Person

MVSD hosted its annual Menudo Breakfast where 2,000 bowls of delicious home-made menudo were served at Twin Lakes School.  The in-person event returned this year after a hiatus in 2020 and a drive-thru version in 2021 due to the pandemic.

“We were very happy to resume our in-person Menudo Breakfast and the turn-out was wonderful,” said Priscilla Figueroa, Director of Family Engagement.  “It was great to see so many people enjoying the morning and the delicious menudo.”

The crowd was treated to the amazing singing of the Mountain View High School Choir and festive music was played by DJ Kaiman throughout the morning.  Raffle prizes were plentiful and included over 30 bicycles courtesy of donations from MVSD staff and schools.  IS Distribution in South El Monte generously donated 10 bicycles and 60 scooters for the event, which brought smiles to all the raffle winners!

The District’s Menudo Breakfast Committee, community liaisons, food service staff members, custodians, maintenance workers, administrators, support staff, and parent volunteers worked hard to ensure everyone had an enjoyable time.  Members of the Mt. View High School Teacher Preparation Academy and Parkview School’s Leadership students were also on hand providing support and representatives from Covered California provided resources and information.

“The Menudo Breakfast is one of our best events of the year that brings our Mt. View staff, families and community together for a morning of delicious menudo and great fellowship,” said Dr. Raymond Andry, Superintendent.  “Seeing the excitement on the faces of the raffle winners as they receive a bike or a gift during the event is priceless,” he added.

Board of Education Clerk, Christian Diaz attended with his mother and had a great time visiting with parents, staff, fellow board members and students.

“I appreciate the hard work of all of our staff who make the Menudo Breakfast such a great event,” said Diaz.  “It’s a wonderful opportunity to spend time with our Mountain View family and our food service team always makes the best menudo!”

Attending the Menudo Breakfast is an annual tradition for many families in MVSD and throughout El Monte and is a great way to kick off the holiday season.

“Bringing a smile to a child and creating a sense of familia is what the Menudo Breakfast is all about,” said Dr. Hugo Moreno, Payne School principal and emcee for the event.  “Coming together with our one purpose of community is really magical.”
