Schools Relaunch PBIS

As the school year gets underway, schools in the Mountain View School District are relaunching the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program on their campuses.
PBIS was implemented in MVSD eight years ago and provides a schoolwide system of support incorporating proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Through PBIS, students know what the behavior expectations are for every part of their campus including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, the cafeteria and the playground.
“PBIS has always been a cornerstone of our educational approach, and its principles of respect, responsibility, and kindness are more relevant than ever,” said Dr. Raymond Andry, Superintendent. “Throughout our schools we hope to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive community where every student feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive.”
Over the years all MVSD schools have implemented successful PBIS programs, helping to create the conditions to maximize academic and social behavioral outcomes for all students.
“After utilizing modified versions of the PBIS program during the pandemic and school closures, we wanted to fully relaunch PBIS this year at all schools,” said George Schonborn, Director of Pupil Personnel Services. “Through PBIS schools create a positive school environment where all students develop the social, emotional and academic skills to learn and thrive.”
Each of the District’s eight schools has a PBIS team, made up of teachers and support staff who have received intensive training in the program, learning strategies to prevent or reduce problem behaviors while creating more positive learning environments for all students.
MVSD’s schools have had great success with PBIS, earning recognition from the PBIS Coalition throughout the years and look forward to continuing to provide exemplary PBIS programs for students.
